Top Interview Questions & Beginner-Friendly Answers

1. What do you understand by mechanical design in electro-mechanical panels?

Answer:
Mechanical design in electro-mechanical panels involves designing the outer frame, internal layout, cooling systems, and mounting structure for panels that include electrical parts. The goal is to make sure everything fits well, stays safe, and works under different temperatures and loads.

2. Which CAD software do you know, and what have you used it for?

Answer:
I have worked with AutoCAD and Creo during my college projects and internships. I used them to create 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical parts like brackets, enclosures, and assemblies. I also learned how to make detailed technical drawings with dimensions and tolerances.

3. What is GD&T, and why is it important in design?

Answer:
GD&T stands for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. It is a system used to define and communicate tolerances on part geometry. It ensures that parts fit together properly even if they are made by different manufacturers. It also helps control size, form, orientation, and position.

4. How do you approach solving a technical problem you’ve never faced before?

Answer:
First, I try to understand the problem completely and break it into smaller parts. Then I do some research or ask a mentor for guidance. If needed, I try small tests or simulations to see what works. I always learn from mistakes and try to improve the solution.

5. What are the main factors you consider in mechanical design?

Answer:
I focus on:

6. What is thermal design and why is it important in panels?

Answer:
Thermal design is about making sure the system does not overheat. In panels with electrical components, heat is generated. If not controlled, it can damage parts. So, we design airflow paths, use cooling fans or heat sinks, and choose materials that help manage temperature.

7. Have you done any project related to simulation or design during college?

Answer:
Yes, I worked on a mini project where I designed a small mechanical part (like a clamp or gear system) and ran a simulation using Creo or ANSYS to check stress and deformation. I learned how to set boundary conditions and analyze the results.

8. What do you know about materials used in mechanical design?

Answer:
Materials are chosen based on their strength, weight, thermal resistance, and cost. For example:

9. Why do you want to work at GE Vernova?

Answer:
GE Vernova is working on future-ready energy solutions. I want to be part of a team that focuses on sustainability, electrification, and innovation. Also, the role gives me a chance to learn from industry experts and grow in mechanical design and simulation.

10. What are your strengths that make you a good fit for this role?

Answer:
